Tight Hole Security Suggestions
If you're tired of your competitors out-bidding you on land sales, or otherwise
'eating your lunch', here are a few suggestions:
- Have your IT department implement PGP as your chosen form of email
encryption between the rig and head office. You'll frustrate the hell out of
the scouts, since they won't be able to read your mail any longer.
- Spend $50 and put a cross-cut shredder in the drilling supervisor's
trailer and the geologist's trailer. The scouts won't like this one bit,
either. If they can't read the discarded drafts of your daily reports, sample
analysis, and logs, they won't know what you know.
- Close the out-facing blinds on the trailers. The scouts won't be able to
stand on the berm and read the Pason display, the formation maps, or other
details of your drilling program that you've pinned to the wall. They'll be
very upset.
- Ask your employees, suppliers, and everyone at the rig, to stop using
cell phones to discuss your drilling business. They won't listen to you, but at
least you'll know the source of a large portion of your information leaks. The
downside of this, of course, is that the scouts will still be happy. They'll
be able to keep their employers supplied with a steady flow of YOUR well
information.
- Scouts have been known to offer security services. Guys, that's like
hiring a fox to guard the chicken coop! The fringe benefits are amazing.
We provide proven and effective security measures that cost much less than the loss of a
land sale bid, the loss of bargaining position on a farm-in agreement, or the
loss of some other contract, merger or acquisition based on your confidential drilling or financial
results.
Now that we have your attention, why don't you print this and give us a call, or drop a copy
of this note on your manager's or VP's desk?
Many thanks for your time, and please remember: "... Tight hole drilling and financial results - protect the information, or lose it to a competitor - it's your choice ... ".
